WMCTF - Community Transport

Community Transport operates passenger, furniture re-use & recycling and training services throughout the West Midlands.  From two main operating centres in Birmingham and Sandwell (and smaller sites in Wolverhampton, Dudley, Solihull and Coventry) our passenger transport service offers mobility access and choice for individuals, support for voluntary and community sector organisations and aims to transform the quality of public services.

Our core ‘group travel’ service provides standard or wheelchair accessible vehicles of up to 16 seats for voluntary and community groups needing transport for their services users and members.  This can be with our drivers, or alternatively we can train an organisations driver to the nationally recognised MiDAS standard.

In addition to group travel, we operate a number of shopper services in Birmingham and Dudley, a number of home-to-school contracts for local authorities and contracted services for older people throughout the West Midlands.  We also operate two voluntary car schemes, in Dudley and Coventry where volunteers use their own cars to transport people with mobility difficulties to medical appointments, hospital or simply out shopping.

We are particularly proud of a public service we operate in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham.  The ‘649’ is operated under contract from Centro and uses a smaller, low-floor vehicle to provide a time-tabled regular service along a route that was considered uneconomic by larger bus operators.  This is a ‘first’ for the Charity and something we hope to replicate in other areas.
