Draft Rail Development Plan
The Rail Development Plan has been produced by Centro on behalf of the Regional Rail Forum, a body which has representatives from local authorities, rail companies and other organisations across the region.
This document is designed to build on Centro's Rail Network Development Strategy, issued in 2007, and to support the Region's Transport Priorities Action Plan, launched in 2008 which identified the importance of rail capacity increase to the region in achieving wider economic, environmental and social objectives. The Rail Development Plan is also intended as a delivery plan supporting Centro's , currently also out for consultation, which sets out a long term vision for the whole public transport system.
Negotiations with rail industry partners have already resulted in a kick-start to the plan with a number of enhancements now confirmed, including over £90m of investment which has been committed to the West Midlands network in Network Rail's 5-year funding plan for 2009 to 2014. In this document, schemes where delivery is committed are listed in bold type alongside the range of other development opportunities.
With many possible calls on national and local funding, it will be necessary to prioritise schemes by identifying those which are the most effective at improving the economic outputs and competitiveness of the region.We are therefore particularly interested in your views on which proposals should be prioritised for funding in 2014 - 2019 so we can create a clear programme to put forward to government.It would be helpful if you are able to support your comments with evidence suitable for this process.
