Performance Report 2011

As part of our commitment to the environment, Centro publishes an 'Environmental Performance Report' annually.

The reports highlight the progress made towards the environmental priorities set out in our Environmental Strategy Action Plan and various carbon reduction initiatives and programmes being delivered more widely by the organisation and look forward to our future aspirations.

Carbon Trust Standard

We successfully achieved the Carbon Trust Standard after taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint at our Birmingham headquarters.

The Carbon Trust award shows that we have taken real action on climate change by reducing our carbon emissions.

It is great recognition for our achievements in carbon reduction and demonstrates our commitment to reducing carbon emissions year on year and it shows that we are taking action ourselves by reducing the carbon emissions that we are directly responsible for.

The Carbon Trust Standard requires the organisation to keep reducing its carbon emissions and to re certify every two years.

Environmental Strategy

Centro's Environmental Strategy for the period 2009-14 demonstrates our commitment to reducing the impact we have on our natural environment and protecting it for future generations. It sets the direction that Centro will take to improve environmental performance in key areas where our activities and operations impact on the environment.

The Strategy addresses the organisation's challenges and commitment for:

  • Promoting Public Transport Use as a Sustainable Means of Transport for the West Midlands. This covers Centro's environmental priorities for Bus, Rail and Rapid Transit.
  • Providing Customers with Sustainable Infrastructure and Services. This includes a commitment to move towards sustainable public transport infrastructure design and services.
  • Promoting Environmental Responsibility within the Organisation. This covers green procurement, staff travel & business mileage, resource usage & waste, water efficiency, energy consumption, environmental legislation & risk reduction and raising awareness.

The main objective is to implement best environmental practises across the organisation and more widely promote environmental sustainability with our partners and stakeholders.

Nottingham Declaration

We became the first regional transport authority to sign a declaration on climate change. The 'Nottingham Declaration' addresses the challenge of tackling global warming and we are working towards curbing climate change through promoting more sustainable forms of transport, and by monitoring our operations as an organisation.
