Network West Midlands clearly identifies the complete network of bus, rail and Metro services that are easily accessible to most people in the West Midlands.

 

Working closely with partners in the West Midlands Metropolitan Districts and private operators of bus, train and Metro services, we launched Network West Midlands – the new name that connects all public transport in the West Midlands metropolitan area, providing far better passenger information – in 2006. Complete roll-out was achieved in December 2007.

 

Network West Midlands signage is installed at all bus, train and Metro stops and wherever you see the network 'n' you'll find clear, consistent and up-to-date information aimed at making bus, train and Metro travel easier.

 

You'll also find new bus shelters at many stops; modern, clean interchanges and bus stations with better facilities and a simpler, straightforward range of tickets. Many rail stations, bus stations, Metro and bus stops now have electronic Real Time Information.

 

Network West Midlands is designed to make using public transport simpler at every stage of your journey, giving you the information you need to make connections between buses, trains and trams.  It's the result of consultation with customers, public transport users, non-users, transport providers and private and public sector partners.

 

In a nutshell, the aim is that reliable, punctual and safe public transport will be within easy reach of you on every stage of your journey, with tickets and information eventually available through a 'One Stop Shop' system.

 

Network West Midlands brings a new range of information – from network identifiers to regularly updated passenger information, timetables and a website – all designed to make public transport easier to use. The benefits will be felt by existing passengers, while also making public transport a more attractive option for non-users.

 

As the UK's second largest conurbation, the West Midlands creates a massive demand for public transport and Centro and its partners are committed to the creation of a fully integrated public transport network.

 

Network West Midlands is a vision of the future where bus, rail and Midland Metro connect, with many services on busy routes being on a 'turn up and go' basis.

 

Network West Midlands is a significant part of Centro's campaign, in partnership with city and borough councils, to tackle congestion – something that costs local businesses £2.2 billion (or £1,000 per resident) annually and greatly contributes to carbon emissions.

 

Through attracting more people onto public transport, Network West Midlands and Centro are helping to tackle global warming. Centro became the first regional transport authority to sign the Climate Change Declaration, working towards curbing CO2 emissions through championing more sustainable forms of transport.

 

To complement the 'seamless' journey provided by Network West Midlands, Centro introduced a number of new branded tickets and travel card products to give people the right choice for the mode(s) they want to use.
