A4123 Birmingham New Road

As part of the ongoing construction of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension, a schedule of forthcoming traffic restrictions is set to be implemented on the A4123 Birmingham New Road during the month of June 2024. The restrictions are necessary to enable the safe installation of the new bridge deck.

  • Friday 7 June 10pm - Monday 10 June 5am
  • Friday 14 June 10pm - Monday 17 June 5am

During the above works, the road will fully close at either side of the bridge.

The final set of works are scheduled to take place on the following dates:

  • Friday 21 June 10pm - Monday 24 June 5am

For this, there will be a one-way closure which will see traffic flowing in southerly direction (towards Oldbury) only.

For both phases of activity, a clearly signed vehicular diversion routes will be in place. Please note, due to the location and nature of the closure and restriction, the pedestrian routes may involve a significant detour.

Delays to journey times in this area are expected.

Travel tips

You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:

Could you walk or cycle?. For your own safety, please use the designated walking routes during lane closures.
Use a different route. If you do have to use the car, check your route before you leave. Google Maps or a Sat-Nav with live traffic updates will help you pick the least congested route each time.
Use public transport wherever possible. This is to reduce congestion on key roads and junctions.
